Discover Economics: YES! Bridge

Discover Economics is working together with the Young Economic Summit to bring you the ‘YES! Bridge’ 2022 competition.YES! is a competition for secondary school students dealing with global problems in the realm of economy, policy, society and environment. The competition is inviting students from Year 10, 11, 12 and 13, or S4, 5 and 6 in Scotland to find innovative solutions to some of the most difficult problems we face. Students do not need to be studying economics to enter, as long as they have innovative solutions, they are welcome to join.Discover Economics: YES! BridgeFive winning teams will compete in the British National Final this Summer and the top two teams from the National Final will then advance to the International Final in Germany in September 2022.

Submissions are open until 18 February 2022.This year, teams of 5 students are asked to create a solution to any of the following problems (the solution may be presented in a one-page essay or be creative with a video, podcast or something else):

  1. Facing the challenges of discrimination and migrant integration
  2. How can we set Taxes, instead of Lockdowns, in order to Reduce Deaths during Pandemics?
  3. Paris climate targets–how can negative emissions and climate engineering help limiting temperature rise?
  4. Project 100% – How Can We Make the COVID Vaccination Campaign Successful?
  5. Sharing the Future – Growing Sustainable Communities: How can Local Networks help Exchange Information and Support Sustainable Living
  6. The future of aviation – Sustainable flight with hydrogen?

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) invites UK students to write about big economic challenges by 18 February 2022.

FCDO Next Generation Economics Competition

The FCDO has launched the 2021-2022 Next Generation Economics Competition, which aims to inspire a new generation of economists who are more diverse and open-minded than the current generation.The competition asks students in years 10-13 (in England and Wales, or the equivalents in Scotland and Northern Ireland) to write a letter no longer than 800 words about one of the two following topics:

  1. What economic policies should governments around the world use to economically empower women and girls?
  2. What economic policies should the UK government use to facilitate a fair transition away from fossil fuels globally?
