 New – Virtual Work Experience link – Speakers for Schools

An organisation called Speakers for Schools who offer a wide range of virtual work experience VWEX through various organisations and companies, dates vary so please check.  Although application is usually through schools, Speakers for Schools are happy to take individual student applications for certain VWEX, through the portal below.  Opportunities are on a first-come first-serve basis.

SGS – New Brunel campus opening September 2021

Virtual NHS work experience for allied health careers

Next date is 4 July Open to students in Years 10 – 13.

Areas covered are;

This programme is available to support all aspiring healthcare students as an alternative to in-person NHS work experience during the pandemic.

During the work experience day, students will follow 2 patients from their initial presentation to recovery. Students will observe the healthcare professionals as they interact with the patients and also each other. Students will have an opportunity to ask questions and gain knowledge through teaching. This will help students to make an informed career decision as well as learn about how healthcare professionals work together as part of a multidisciplinary team. Each work experience day is completely different and students will be able to build on their knowledge of NHS careers as they see different patient cases and their healthcare professionals work in a variety of settings, such as hospitals and communities.

Allied Health Mentor

Students will receive certificates as evidence of having participated in the work experience programme. Students can register individually through the website link above. South Gloucester & Stroud College – SGS

Up until now we have only been allowed student facing tours virtually. We are now able, commencing 10th May, to offer applicants the opportunity to view their selected area of study via a site tour in small groups, concluding with a Q&A session with a course leader. These will take place throughout the week, by subject area, starting at 4pm and lasting for approximately 45 minutes followed by a Q & A session.

Farm to Fork is back! – 14th and 15th June 2021 at Puxton Park

Open to year 10 and 11, come along and see the whole food process from farm to fork! (flyer attached) Students will have opportunity to have a tour of the facilities, experience the dairy and try their hand at making sausages in the butchery. Staff will be on hand to talk about careers in the food industry.  This event will be held outside of the school day due to limited resources and capacities at the venue. Book your place here
