NGRT Parent letter

Dear Parent/Carer,

As part of our commitment to supporting every student’s learning, all students at Winterstoke Hundred Academy will soon be completing the New Group Reading Test (NGRT).

The NGRT is a nationally recognised online assessment designed to measure a student’s reading ability. It looks at key areas such as:

  • Reading accuracy
  • Comprehension and understanding of different types of texts
  • Ability to read and interpret vocabulary in context

The test is adaptive, which means the level of questions changes according to how your child is performing, ensuring it is appropriate and accessible for every student.

The results provide us with valuable information about each student’s reading strengths and areas where they may benefit from additional support. This helps us to:

  • Identify students who may need extra help with their reading
  • Plan targeted support and interventions where needed
  • Monitor progress and celebrate improvements in literacy skills

We know that strong reading skills are fundamental to success across the curriculum. By using the NGRT, we can ensure that every child has the right support to achieve their full potential. There is no need for your child to revise or prepare for the assessment. We simply ask that they approach it with a positive attitude and do their best.

If you have any questions about the NGRT or how the results will be used, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Thank you for your continued support.

Yours sincerely,
G Ford
