Police Incident

21 November 2023

Dear Parent/Carer,

You may have seen or heard talk this morning about a police presence in the vicinity of Winterstoke Hundred Academy – I am writing to reassure you that this was in response to an incident which occurred near to the academy, outside of the school grounds on the main roundabout, and that at no time were any students at risk.

Prior to school opening this morning, we learned of an incident on the road near to school. A motorbike – believed to have been stolen – was in collision with a car, before its rider fled the scene on foot. At that point, the person climbed a school fence and ran through our grounds before leaving via an open gate.

The person involved is known to police and has no ties to Winterstoke Hundred Academy. The police have assured us that they did not think he posed a threat and was simply trying to evade capture.

As with any incident where an unauthorised person enters school grounds, we will look carefully at our security protocols in the light of this incident, and will take any advice from police. However, please be reassured that this was a one-off incident, which resulted in no threat to our students or damage to school property. We continue therefore to operate as normal today.

I hope this will provide you with any reassurance you might need in response to this morning’s police presence near to school, but do please reach out through the usual channels if you have any questions.

Yours Faithfully

Tony Searle
Executive Principal
