Start of Term arrangements September 2024
Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope that the holiday has started well for you. I would like to thank parents and carers for your support during the school year, in what has continued to be busy time at Winterstoke Hundred Academy. This year we have managed a lot of change with our new building being ready for January, adapting to a new timetable and having our first Ofsted visit.
I am very proud of all our students and staff for the way they have managed and embraced these changes mid-year. We look forward to September as we begin the year with a full school for the first time.
Start of Term arrangements September 2024
In September we will have a staggered start to the year. Years 7, 11, 12 and 13 are due back to school on Wednesday 4th September.
All year groups return to school on Thursday 5th September.
Year Groups | Start back date and time |
7, 11, 12 and 13 only | Wednesday 4th September 08.40am |
All Year Groups | Thursday 5th September 08.40am |
The first days and week of term are very important in helping pupils to settle into school and the school routine. We know that strong attendance in the first week of term means students are more likely to attend well over the year. We will plan carefully for these days to ensure students are settled into the changes that happen in new academic years, and therefore more readily able to access learning than those who miss out. I will communicate the plans for these days closer to the start of term.
Uniform Requirements: Years 7-11
I would like to reiterate that we expect uniform always to be worn correctly. I thank you in advance for your support, as you know I feel a smart appearance is important, but also it keeps that sense of belonging and encourages a sense of community, identity and pride in our school.
Uniform can be purchased from NK Sports in Worle, Weston-Super-Mare. Please find the link to the WHA section on the website here: Winterstoke Hundred Academy – NK Uniform (nkgroupuk.com)
The Academy uniform consists of:
- WHA blazer with school logo
- Plain white shirt
- Plain black tailored trousers or plain black, tailored No lycra, clingy/skinny trousers/leggings or tube skirts.
- WHA Tie
- WHA navy blue V-neck (optional)
- Plain black shoes or trainers (must be all black with black laces, no white or coloured markings or logos)
- Plain black socks
- A plain black headscarf if worn for religious purpose
Jewellery and Piercings
- A watch (no smart watches), small stud earrings (ONLY one in each ear), one ring and one small pendant, which must not be visible and must be able to be removed for PE.
- No other jewellery may be
- Nose piercings must not be
For Health and Safety reasons, the school does not permit body piercing apart from one pair of small stud or sleeper earring in the ear lobe. We would like to take this opportunity to remind parents that body piercings usually take a minimum of 6 months to heal.
We would therefore strongly recommend that students do not get any piercings over the summer that cannot comfortably and easily be removed for school come September. Students are not permitted to wear nose studs, and this includes clear retainers.
Equipment
Similarly, it may be useful to remind Parents and Carers what equipment is required at school. Students should ensure they bring:
- Black pen x2
- Pencil
- Ruler
- Rubber
- Pencil Sharpener
- Scientific calculator: Casio fx-85GTX (black)
- Reading book (can be borrowed from the school library)
- Re-usable water bottle
Attendance
We would like to extend a big thank you to all our Winterstoke Hundred Academy Parents and Carers for supporting your children to attend school and engage so well with their learning during the last academic year. We know that this reflects the value our families place on children learning in school every day. We are looking forward to working with all our existing and new students and families in this new academic year, to support best attendance and learning.
At Winterstoke Hundred Academy, we want and expect our students to attend school every day, unless they are not well enough to. We believe that children who attend school regularly are more likely to feel settled in school, maintain friendships, keep up with their learning and gain the greatest benefit from their education. Attending school on time every day also helps students form good habits which can stay with them throughout their educational journey and on into the workplace.
Arriving at School on Time
Arriving at school on time is not only essential for the student’s own learning, it encourages habits of good timekeeping and lessens any possible classroom disruption. When a student arrives late, they miss crucial learning which can seriously disadvantage them.
Students can arrive from 8:00am and enter the building from 8:20am.
- All students are expected to arrive at school in good time for the start of the school day at 8:30am.
To assist Parents/Carers in booking holidays and arranging other events, please find detailed below the term dates and inset days for this academic year. Our term date information can also be found on the school website.
