Work Experience Launch Letter

Dear Parent/Carer,

We are excited to announce that Work Experience for all Year 10 students will be from Monday 8th July to Friday 12th July 2024!

As well as providing invaluable insights into the world of work, the work experience programme informs decision making, raises aspirations, broadens mindsets and helps gain an understanding of employment pathways.

At Winterstoke Hundred Academy we value the influence and input of parents/carers in supporting your child in this exciting chapter. We also acknowledge that for some the thought of work experience may feel a bit daunting.

Together with your input it is our aim to support each student in developing their organisational, confidence and resilience skills in completing their work experience journey.

The work experience journey begins right now!

All Year 10 students are encouraged to be independent and proactive in their search for a suitable employer placement. Employers have varying procedures in place which must be followed when applying for a work

experience placement. This means each student will be required to research potential employers, make contact by phone, email or visit to confirm their placement. In preparation of this our PSHE program will be delivering lessons on Preparing for Work Experience, Cover Letters and CV’s. Also, all Year 10 pupils can speak with our Careers Adviser who will offer ongoing support. Please note our Year 10 SEN students will be supported throughout the process by Dr Georgie Ford (SENCO), Noren Mckinen (YR10 TA) and Sam Prescott (Head of Year).

When an employer has agreed to provide a placement, please complete the three blue forms: Work Experience Agreement, Letter of Understanding and Health, Safety & Individual Needs.

The deadline for returning the three completed blue forms is Wednesday 31st January 2024. Completed forms must be handed in to Winterstoke Hundred Academy reception for processing.

We look forward to a successful year ahead and wish every student success in finding their work experience

placements. Should you have knowledge of any employers who may be able to offer placements, or you are able to offer a placement yourself, please let the school careers team aware and we will contact you. Should you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact the school: [email protected]

Yours sincerely,

Nigel Halliday
