BTEC National Extended Certificate

Curriculum

The content of this qualification has been developed in consultation with academics to ensure that it supports progression to higher education. In addition, employers and professional bodies have been involved and consulted, in order to confirm that the content is appropriate and consistent with current practice, should learners choose to enter employment directly in the music sector.

In addition to the knowledge, understanding and skills that underpin study of the music sector, this qualification offers learners experience of the breadth and depth of the sector to prepare them for further study or training.

Progression

The course is designed to give you a broad and balanced understanding of all facets of music. The course offers excellent preparation for higher education courses in music but equally will enable learners to begin their careers in their chosen field of music.

Performer, composer, session musician, producer, retailer, educator, journalist.

Additional Entry Requirements

GCSE Music grade 5-9 or BTEC Music at level 2 (Merit or Distinction).

Assessment

A combination of folio work, performances, recordings & presentations.

Opportunities for work related activities

Visiting and performing in Professional venues. Workshops by professional musicians and activities involving the Music industry.
