Winterstoke celebrates UKMT senior maths challenge success

Year 12 and 13 students at Winterstoke Hundred Academy have racked up a number of impressive results in the UKMT Senior Maths Challenge.

This prestigious national competition encourages mathematical reasoning, precision, and creative problem-solving, and the Weston students rose brilliantly to the challenge.

School leaders offered a huge well done to all 12 students who represented Winterstoke Hundred with enthusiasm and determination.

A special mention goes to Teyla Stenhouse-Murphy in Year 12, who achieved an outstanding Gold Award and has qualified for the next round — the Andrew Jobbings Senior Kangaroo.

The Andrew Jobbings Senior Kangaroo is a 60-minute, 20 question mathematics competition for students in the UK, following the UKMT Senior Mathematical Challenge. It is an invitation only event for high-scoring students.

Hayley Hughes, Curriculum Leader of Maths at Winterstoke Hundred Academy, said: “This is a fantastic accomplishment, reflecting both Teyla’s hard work and exceptional mathematical ability. We wish her the very best of luck in the next stage of the competition.”
