Winterstoke students shine in national Junior Mathematics Challenge
Winterstoke Hundred Academy is celebrating the outstanding success of its students in the prestigious Junior Mathematics Challenge, a national competition designed to test maths reasoning, problem-solving skills, and resilience.
A total of 40 enthusiastic Year 7 and 8 students took on this exciting and intellectually-demanding challenge, with many earning Bronze, Silver, and Gold awards – a true testament to their dedication and talent.
Participation alone in the Junior Maths Challenge is an impressive achievement, reflecting not only strong mathematical ability but also creativity, persistence, and a positive mindset. Every student who took part should feel immensely proud of their performance.
Kelly Greatorex, teacher of maths, said: “I am incredibly proud of all our students who embraced the challenge with such enthusiasm.
“Their achievements are a reflection of their hard work and curiosity, and it’s inspiring to see their confidence in mathematics grow through opportunities like this.”
The academy offered a special shout-out to Payton in Year 8, who not only earned the title of ‘Best in the School’ but has also qualified for the Junior Kangaroo, a follow-on round that only the top 5% of students nationally are invited to join. This is an extraordinary accomplishment — well done, Payton!
