Brief Based Media

Year 1

In Year 1 you will focus on your first 3 modules for this course. This will involve a student-led module on Art and Design in Context, where you as a student will explore an area of your choice with guidance from your tutor. Another module will be Using Digital technology in Graphic Design, this module will provide you with a strong foundation of developing your digital and graphic design skills using industry standard software, as well as breaking down the basics of Graphic Design. The last module you will undertake in this year is in Art and Design Illustration. This module is both physical and digital in its undertaking and lets you examine and create work to a real-world brief, applying the knowledge you have developed through the year and readying for the 2nd year of study.

Year 2

This year starts with a free module, where students will have a voice in selecting a module from a selection provided by the tutor that teaches them an area they wish to examine. In the current year we are exploring Digital Photography as this provides key skills for the rest of the course. This could be anything from Painting, Photography and Craft styled modules, all based around briefs! The final 2 modules for the course are heavily industry focused and focus on applying all the practical skills you have developed throughout your study. These culminate in 2 modules: Design for Advertising and Branding and Corporate Design. Both modules will follow a path highly like that of the real world and offer you a chance to really stamp your mark as a Creative Designer!

Curriculum

In Creative Design (Brief Based Media) you will achieve a qualification in Graphic Design that is heavily focused around real world briefs and scenarios. It will give you a deep look into the working practices of creatives and Art as well as an opportunity to expand your own practice, skills, and knowledge of the world of Creative Design.

Progression

The OCR Technical Level 3 in Art and Design (2012): Graphic Design is equivalent to 1 A-level. This combined with other qualifications will allow a student to progress to university, whilst also providing a portfolio of work to move into an apprenticeship, work or even independent business.

Additional Entry Requirements

Grade 4 in any Art, Design or Photography GCSE with a portfolio interview.

Assessment

100% internally assessed over 6 modules, grades ranging from Pass, Merit, Distinction and Distinction*.

Opportunities for work related activities

Work experience with local practitioners and trips to local working businesses within the industry.
