Curriculum

Esports is a rapidly growing global industry that demands a unique blend of specialised skills. These skills often overlap with those found in data analysis, computer science, and business. This course is designed to fine-tune these transferable skills, tailoring them specifically to the esports sector and enhancing employability within this dynamic field.

Esports offers students the opportunity to explore a wide range of subject areas – including sport, marketing, enterprise, IT, and the creative industries. This broad curriculum enables learners to discover their personal strengths and interests, while also applying prior knowledge to innovate within the esports space.

The qualification goes beyond academic theory, incorporating essential life skills such as social interaction, physical wellbeing, mental resilience, and financial literacy. Students also develop strategic thinking, technical skills, and teamwork – preparing them for success in dynamic, modern workplaces.

Endorsed by the British Esports Association, this course is ideal for learners aiming to enter the esports industry and provides a strong foundation for progression to university-level study.

Progression

Students completing this course can go onto study a bachelor’s degree in the following fields: Esports, Media, Events Management, Games Technology, and Business and management. Students can also pursue foundation degrees in the following fields: Cyber Security, Computer Science, and Software Engineering.

Careers

Core careers that are possible solely from the BTEC, without higher education, are: roles within an esports organisation, such as an esports player or team coach, roles within the esports community, such as a social media influencer or live streamer, and roles within esports analysis, such as a data analyst or shout caster.

Assessment

This course solely comprises of internal coursework-based assessments in the form of written reports, projects, time-constrained practical assessments with observation records and supporting evidence, recordings of performance, sketchbooks, working logbooks, reflective journals, or presentations with assessor questioning.

Entry Requirements

There are no additional entry requirements for this subject; however, GCSE subjects that include essay writing and data analysis, such as science and history, are advantageous.
