Business GCSE – Edexcel
The Business curriculum at Winterstoke Hundred Academy is designed to develop confident individuals who are able to effectively communicate with their peers and other members of society. All students are taught topics that include, elements of customer service, innovation and creatively and financial concepts. This will provide our students with valuable skills that can be transferred to every-day situations. The GCSE will provide students with a range of opportunities to demonstrate these skills across the two years of study. Students are actively encouraged to develop their entrepreneurial skills and deliver effective business pitches through presentations to teachers and peers. The specification has been resourced fully using teaching strategies that allow students to acquire and then apply their knowledge to chosen scenarios of both small and large businesses.

Year 12 | During the first year of study students will cover two units. The first internally assessed unit looks at exploring features of different businesses and analyse what makes them successful; looking in depth at organisational structure, current markets and innovation and enterprise. The second externally assessed unit looks at the importance of personal and business finance; understanding the importance of personal finance, accounting, break even and cash flow forecasts and statements of comprehensive income and financial position to business performance. | |||||
Year 13 | During the second year of study students will look more in depth at marketing campaigns and the recruitment process. The externally assessed marketing unit looks at the principles and purposes of marketing that underpin the creation of a rationale for a marketing campaign. The internally assessed recruitment unit looks at examining how effective recruitment and selection can contribute to business success. This unit culminates with students undertaking a recruitment activity from application to employment. |
