Geography

Learning Geography allows pupils to have an understanding of the world’s physical environment and how humans have interacted with it and created change. The endless opportunities for fieldwork also make Geography unique.

Through the study of geography, we give students knowledge of diverse people, places and environments. This knowledge will allow them to connect to, and understand their responsibilities within, their local, national and global contexts.

At the core of Geography is an understanding of our world and our connection to it. The understanding of other places and cultures is key within the subject to allow students to be more responsible global citizens.

A high-quality geography education should inspire in pupils a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people that will remain with them for the rest of their lives. Teaching should equip pupils with knowledge about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes.

As pupils progress, their growing knowledge about the world should help them to deepen their understanding of the interaction between physical and human processes and of the formation and use of landscapes and environments which will be explored through fieldwork Geographical knowledge, understanding and skills provide the frameworks and approaches that explain how the Earth’s features at different scales are shaped, interconnected and change over time.
